“Our hope of domination is collapsing around us, Reaver. What are you going to do about it?”

“I won’t let these petty cats ruin my plans!”

“Petty as they might be, they have already fought off every single Assassin in your arsenal. Look as even your mighty commanders flee from the fray in fear.”

“Vex and the others were never mighty. They were failures. In the end, I would have disposed of them anyway. Now it is my turn to strike fear upon these ignorant fools.”

“Don’t you mean it is my turn?”

“Yes. Unleash your strength. My body and weapons are yours to wield.”

    “Excellent.”

The lightning and thunder were coming more frequently. They chained along the thick black ceiling of clouds and struck the ground with a loud crash. The rain was unbearably pouring on the twolegplace like never before. At least a puddles worth of water was hitting the group of cats every minute, drenching their pelts and Glaive’s metal gear. Behind them, the fires were easily being put out by the downpour, and the cats cheered the leaders on as they ran toward the ominous Dark Den standing at the end of the thunderpath.

On the outside of the haunting twoleg den, it was much similar to Boom’s den, but it was much less taken care of. A gate rose around the front yard with a opening on the center path. The grass was unkept and the trees rising on either side of the house were completely dead. It looked as though not a single leaf had grown on them for seasons. Along the center stone path were cracks and weeds sprouting up. At the end was the broken door that was unhinged and wide open for anyone to waltz into.

The whole house was made of wood. There were windows on the level above them, cracked and somewhat broken. A slight overhang at the front door was supported by two beams that were ready to break at a moment’s notice. The rain hit the roof of the building and splayed off the edges onto the deprived grass.

Echopaw led the rest of the leaders and his clanmates to the front door, sheltered under the teetering overheang by the rain for the minute. Glaive wiped off the moisture from his metal eye and claw and muttered something about “rust.” Platinum preoccupied herself with tiny hops to keep her raring to fight. Frost and the other Elementals weren’t the same cats he met before. Frost’s cold attitude changed to a more friendly tone while Blaze’s was serious and ready to kill. Leaf timidly stood behind the two determined cats.

Squirrelflight brushed off Splashpaw from her leg and came up to Echopaw, who was staring into the den blankly. She asked, “Are you ready?”

“Ready to face another one of Nox’s experiments?... I don’t know.” Echopaw shook his head and lowered his chin. “Necron nearly killed Dawnpaw. Blade murdered all those innocent cats. Reaver... He sounds like the kind of cat to lead an army of evil cats.”

“You led an army of cats, Echopaw. Cats who want nothing more than this madness to stop,” Squirrelflight meowed. She walked around to look him in the eyes. “You aren’t alone like you were facing Zon or Necron. Now you have all of us by your side to fight Reaver.”

Echopaw nodded in response. The door creaked, spooking him a bit. He replied, “Nox has planned Lux’s downfall with the monsters he put in his experiments. We were lucky enough to avoid fighting with Mudpaw’s, but Reaver’s...” He closed his eyes. “What kind of powers could he possess?”

“There’s only one way to find out, Echopaw.” She tilted her head to the doorway.

He raised his head and shouted out, “Let’s go.”

The group of warriors and leaders walked inside the den entrance, crouched and ready to spring at any cat that pops up out of nowhere. Inside the den, the walls were plastered with a floral design but ripped in many different places. The ground was made of wooden planks and covered with random rugs. Up ahead were three paths: One leading straight down into another hall and two stairways on either side of the room up to the second floor of the den.

The ceiling wasn’t in tact like other dens. The rain leaked in through a couple holes and dripped down through the floorboards. One spot in the back of the large room had a hole the side of a tree trunk, letting in a river of water in. Echopaw and the others scanned the entire room. He followed the side paths that lead to the second floor and spotted something.

A balcony was located between the two sets of stairs and hung over the lower center path. On it, a black tom sat glaring at the cats approaching below him. He wore straps similar to Vex’s but with more places to store knives.

Echopaw stopped pacing as soon as he saw the cat and halted the others as well. He pointed his nose to the balcony to show the others. Once all of them had seen the cat, they extended their claws and bared they teeth, ready to fight.

“Welcome to the Dark Den, friends. Make yourself at home,” said the tom. He bent over and trained his eyes on each cat on the lower level. “I assume I don’t need to introduce myself.”

“Reaver! You know what we’re here for!” Glaive called out. He stepped to the front of the group and glowered at the tom sitting above them. “This war will end with your death!”

Reaver did nothing but laugh in response at first. The wind and old house made creaking noises all around that filled the silence afterwards. He spoke up once more, “Before we begin, I want to speak with that young leader of yours.” Reaver leaned back and meowed, “Echopaw, correct? By what I’ve heard, you’ve overwhelmed Volt and triumphed against Boom in battle. I’m impressed to say the least.”

Echopaw didn’t reply. He wasn’t going to talk with this killer. The fact that he commanded a whole group of cats to kill, stole Mudpaw away from StoneClan and made him a monster, and even nearly killed a twoleg proved that he wasn’t going to turn good like Boom did. Reaver was evil, one of Nox’s experiments. The only thing that made Echopaw uneasy was what kind of power Nox gave him.

“Your ambition to create peace is noble... That’s where I come in.” Reaver pulled out a knife from his pack on his flank and planted it on the edge of the balcony. “It is no surprise Frost betrayed me, and no doubt you have the blessing of both Lux and the rest of the Elementals on your side...”

He knew a lot. That wasn’t good. Echopaw kept quiet, but intently listened and studied Reaver’s actions. At any moment the Dark Assassin leader could swiftly deliver his first attack and end Echopaw’s life. Glaive and Platinum were getting antsy as well.

“However, with every hero, there is a villain. A villain who matches the hero in every aspect and virtue. Heh. Nox was gracious enough to grant me a large quantity of his dark powers to become that villain. Evil ambition.” Reaver closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “Let me be the first to introduce you all to my inner Daemon... Oda...”

    Oda?

Suddenly, the atmosphere changed. It felt as though the air was taken away from Echopaw and circled around the Assassin. Reaver’s form began to glow like Necron’s and Blade’s. A dark aura that looked like a river of black mist flowing along the tom’s black pelt. The mist fell from the balcony and disappeared before it could touch the lower level. Echopaw and the others backed away in confusement and fear. What in StarClan was he?

Reaver opened his eyes, and instead of his original purple glare, they were a bright and sunset red-orange. His grin widened into a smile, and the mist thickened and formed a haze around him. A gurgling and freaky laugh came from between his sharpened teeth.

“... Glaive, it is a pleasure to see your ugly face again. Hehehe.” Reaver’s voice was entirely different. It wasn’t Reaver anymore. It was Oda.

Glaive growled fiercely, unmoved by the transformation. “I remember those eyes...”

“From the first day, my dark ambition fueled Reaver to achieve goals only the most insane of cats could fathom.” Oda reached out with his right paw, his claws extending further with every word. “Complete rule over the entire city. With the twolegs gone, there is nothing to stop us from dominating all cats who stand in our way!”

Echopaw hissed, “What good can come from killing?”

“Utter chaos. What else do you think I want?” He stood up and stared at the young tom with a gaze that could scare the toughest of kits. “Not even you have the power to stop me.”

“Not alone!” Echopaw looked to his fellow warriors, to the Elementals, to Platinum and Glaive, then back at the Assassin. “Your evil ambition has either scared away or gotten your followers killed. You may have powers, but there’s no way you could possibly fight all of us.”

“That’s where you wrong.” His smile was gone. All of a sudden, Echopaw widened his eyes in pure terror at what he witnessed next.

The knife that Reaver placed in the wooden panels on the balcony started to move. Around it, a dark aura began to form. The knife, now enshrouded by the same mist that coated Oda, slowly removed itself from the floor and rose up into the air. It spun to have it’s sharp point facing upwards.

“Telekinesis, my naive foes.” The knife floated at his eye level as he explained. “The ability to wield any weapon with the power of the mind. And with the kind of arsenal I possess...” On cue, the knives and kunai from the straps across his body began to float as well. They cascaded around his body and made a ring of floating tools a tail-length above him. By Echopaw’s first count, he saw at least ten knives in the air. “Well, it can get the point across. Hehehe.”

Echopaw swallowed hard as the tom himself began to rise off his paws. Both his tools and his form were floating off the ground, and the weather outside worsened with water pouring in faster and thunder crashing loudly. The group of cats backed away and hid their fear as the most ambitious evil cat raised his paws and caused the knives to rotate faster around him.

Oda looked down at the cowering group of warriors and leaders and shouted, “What do you have to say now, leader of StoneClan?”
Here's the start of the rapid-fire chapter release.

Now Reaver's true power have revealed itself. Oda, the most ambitious, evil Daemon of Nox's Experiments. With the ability to wield knives with nothing but his mere willpower, Echopaw and his friends are in for one heck of a battle. May StarClan guide them to safety to defeat this wretched beast.
